Benefit from Implants

Implant-supported dentures are the closest alternative to natural teeth. These dentures are incredibly secure and provide a stronger bite than traditional dentures. Dr. Bauer can use dental implants to hold either a partial or full denture securely in place.

Dentures Defined

Dentures are made up of two parts: prosthetic teeth and a gum-colored plastic base

At our Lakewood dental practice, our patients can choose from traditional and implant-supported options for dentures and partial dentures. Traditional partial dentures and full-arch dentures are removable. They are held in place by clasps, dental adhesive, or natural suction.

Implant-supported dentures stay in place thanks to implants, small posts inserted through the gums and into the jawbone. Implants are what make these dentures fit, feel, and look more like your natural teeth.

Traditional Dentures Vs. Implant-Supported Dentures Which One Is Right for You?

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures are a fast, affordable, and a tried-and-true solution. However, they do have disadvantages. These full and partial dentures can move in the mouth, leading to problems speaking and eating. In addition, they need to be removed overnight for cleaning and to give your gums a rest. A long-term risk is that dentures accelerate bone loss in the jaw. As your jaw changes shape, your denture becomes loose and will need to be relined or replaced to ensure a secure, comfortable fit. A shrinking jawbone will also result in a lack of support for your facial structure, making you look older than you are.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures offer a number of important advantages over traditional dentures. The implant itself, which functions like a tooth root, stimulates rejuvenating bone growth in the jaw, keeping it strong and maintaining your facial profile. Implant-supported dentures are also versatile. They can either be permanently fixed in your mouth so you care for them like regular teeth or you can snap your dentures onto implants so you can remove them for nightly cleaning. Since both options attach to implants, they provide the stability you want for confident speaking and eating.

What Does a Denture Cost? Defined

Traditional dentures typically cost between $2,100 and $2,700 per arch. Implant-supported dentures, which require oral surgery to place the implants, will cost more, but many patients believe the benefits of a secure, functional bite and healthy jaw outweigh the cost. To get accurate pricing, we recommend requesting a consultation so we can determine if you are a suitable candidate for implant-supported dentures and what your procedure would cost.

Replace Your Old Restoration

Dentistry moves fast, and Dr. Bauer understands the importance of using the latest materials and technology in the creation of dentures. If you are unhappy with the look, feel, or fit of your old-fashioned dentures, it may be time to visit a modern dentist. Dr. Bauer can perform advanced imaging and collect detailed impressions to design a set of dentures that are comfortable and look like natural teeth.

If your old restoration is serving your needs but needs to be repaired, we can help with that too. We work with a local boutique dental lab that uses the finest materials and latest technology to create and repair restorations.

Are You a Candidate for Dentures?

Although most patients are good candidates for traditional removable dentures, the candidacy restrictions are much more stringent for implant-supported dentures.

Traditional

In general, most patients with widespread tooth damage or tooth loss are good candidates for removable restorations. Traditional dentures simply rest on the gums and are removed at night for cleaning and to let your gums rest. If you have outstanding oral health concerns like gum disease or loose teeth, our dentist can perform the necessary treatments prior to beginning your restorative dentistry treatment.

Implant-Supported

Implant-supported dentures are held in place with a small post that is inserted into the jawbone. Good candidates should be healthy enough to undergo surgery and have sufficient bone in the jaw to support the implant. Because dental implants also increase the cost of treatment, you will also need to be willing to invest in your smile. Lastly, you will also need to commit to a longer treatment timeline.
